"The Birth of a Diva"
~ How I Found My Voice
(A Musical Narrative)

The Chasin Team was so excited to have Jake's sister, Julia Chalfin, perform her American Diva show for us in a benefit concert on Dec 16, 2011.
The evening was spectactular! It was located at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills - Rose Hall Theatre in Phoenixville, Pa. The concert started at 7:30 pm with an intermission and reception immediately following the performance.

The show told how a country bumpkin became a successful international Opera Diva. It was a humorous trip of musical self-discovery through Musicals, Pop, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Jazz and Classical music, in search of the appropriate genre and world fame. The program included songs from these musical styles and finishes with a series of opera arias. Parallel to Julia's story, Tim Peck , Julia's accompanist/master of the keys, shared how he developed his skills as both a talented classical pianist and free swinging jazz musician.

A Reception immediately followed the performance. It was located at the cafe adjacent to the theatre. Jake and his family were there to greet everyone. Wine, coffee and some exquisite desserts made and donated by the best bakers in Chester Co.(I understand some of them are even from the CFC team!) were served.

About our performing Artists...

“A delicious voice in a delicious person” (Michael Schopper, director of the Bach-Ensemble-Olching) is one of the many ways to define American lyric soprano Julia Chalfin. Julia has performed Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Micaëla in Carmen, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Venus in Gourzi/Haydn’s Philemon & Baucis, Diana in Diana Amante and Maid Marion in the world premiere of Hartmut Zöbeley’s Robin Hood. She has appeared as the soprano soloist in the Mozart, Fauré and Pinkerton’s Requiem as well as Mahler’s 4th Symphony, Händel’s Joshua, Bach’s B Minor Mass and Christmas Oratorio as well as many smaller masses by Haydn, Mozart and Schubert. She has also made a name for herself as a cabaret performer with her shows The Birth of a Diva and American Music Night and her joint work with Maxi Schafroth in his program Faszination Allgäu.

Julia grew up in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania surrounded by nature and the arts. After participating in the Pennsylvania Governor’s School of the Arts in 1998 she went to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY where she was awarded the prestigious Filene scholarship, a four year scholarship for outstanding merit in musical performance. Julia continued her studies at Ithaca College where she received her Master of Music in Vocal Performance. In September 2007 she relocated to Munich for a postgraduate year of studies at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium. She has been living and working in Germany ever since.
